The Star

This image is one that came to me while sketching one day years ago. I painted it and later learned it was a loose interpretation of the Waite deck's Star card.

I must have seen the Star card, because the painting has so many of the elements in it that the card does. My painting has the constellations in the sky and it is quite dark, with the figure and the urn in gold paint. It was one of the first paintings I did after not painting for nearly 20 years. So it has come to mean inspiration for me.

At first, I' wasn't sure that it meant anything other than a gold figure with the sky behind her. I remember I wanted to have the sky, the earth, a human, and water in the painting. I was also surprised to learn that the card's number was 17. My life path number in numerology is 8, and combinations of the number 8 (1+7) have always been present in my life.
